  There already are some objects which allow exactly this, they can be found at the Loom and require Wool, there currently are 4 different ones (Pet Bed, Naptree Nook, Perch, Woof Cabin) of which 2 are paintable (Bed and Tree), they only differ visually as any pet can be put into them (albeit only 1 per object if you mean to ask for more per object).
  
  Though I feel like worth mentioning is that considering the variety of pets and biomes/aesthetics the variety of these objects could also be slightly higher, plus it would be really nice if all of them are paintable rather than a select few. E.g. we got a variety of slimes which could use a more fitting, and the Perch kinda feels a bit too simple for all aerial pets like the Pheremoth and particularly the Symbiote.

  There are already some furniture to place pets down and they will roam in a small radius around it, they wont attack anything however.
  
  If they did it would prolly be abused and people would place 100 pets down before a bossfight
